It is estimated that you only have 4 seconds to grab the attention of a viewer to your website, and that if it is not visually appealing they will quickly leave and move onto the next. Unless you are a graphic designer, this can seem like a daunting task. You also have the problem that what appeals to some people will not appeal to others, so how can you attract the biggest audience possible?
Images and Videos
Images and videos are the first things any new viewers will see, so they need to be good. Using professional photographers, like Mike Sansone Photography, for headshots can be a great way of having images that people will stop to look at, and it is said if they stay more than 10 seconds you stand more chance of them becoming a customer.
Videos are a way of getting information to potential customers without them having to read pages of text. It was Bill Gates who coined the phrase ‘content is king’. And it still is. It is just a different sort of content that you need now. Of course, there will always have to be some text, and articles and blogs can be very useful. But if they are accompanied by images or videos, their use increases dramatically.
User-Friendly
Your small business website must be very user-friendly. If users have difficulty navigating your pages they will soon give up and leave. Make sure the information they might need is readily available and easy to access, and then it is more likely they will convert to a customer.
Be Consistent
Be consistent with the layout of your pages. If every time they change from one to another it looks like a different website, they will get frustrated and think it is all too much effort. You should also be consistent with keeping any information up to date. If there are price changes deal with them right away, not wait a week and then find you have complaints as people have been charged more.
Consistency is also important when it comes to blogs and social media posts. If you do not so these on a regular basis, the search engines think your site had become irrelevant and will drop you down the rankings.
Colors
The colors you use can have more effect than you may realize. A color that catches the eye will mean that more viewers stay to look at your site, with some consumers having said it is the reason for buying from that business.
Just think what colors catch your attention as you walk down the street/ Which stores signage’s or window displays are using the colors that more people stop to look at? These are the colors you need to use on your website.
Never uses ones that when writing is overlaid it becomes unreadable, as that will lead to confusion and losing users.
Follow these tips for a more attractive website and hopefully you will retain more viewers who will turn into customers.
