A former senator believes excessive government regulation is a huge obstacle to business growth and employment and Economic Recovery.
Former Democratic Senator Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas believes the “breakneck pace” with which federal agencies are issuing new regulations is stifling business growth and employment across the country. These regulations are leading to excessive costs and tremendous uncertainty, paralyzing expansionary activity.
In the 90-day period leading up to the November 2012 elections, federal agencies published over 6,000 new regulations, an average of over 68 per day. According to the George Washington University Regulatory Studies Center, there are over 281,000 full-time government employees whose job it is to draft and enforce regulations. This compares to fewer than 50 who are responsible for ensuring that new regulations are “justified and accurate.”
