Keeping Up Appearances Of Your Retail Store’s Exterior

October 5, 2018 By Editor

Small Business storefront

Many family-owned businesses take on the image of so much love and care. The classic pizza restaurant owner, brushing his entrance and hosing down the pavement outside his shop to keep things clean comes to mind. Retail stores are often looked at in this way for standards when it comes to appearances. Despite having some brilliant products on sale, putting your best in the window display and having automatic doors so people can see inside when others walk in, the exterior can keep people from making that first step. Why would you want to go into a place where there are bird droppings on the windows, chewing gum stains on the floor or welcome carpet and a bad paint job right outside it? It’s not inviting, enticing or in any way modern to have these things and more on the exterior of your business.

Renew the parking lot

Retail stores often take the share of the local parking lot full of customers. The responsibility of the upkeep of this parking lot is with the council or some kind of local authority. However, if you have your very own parking lot outside your business, that you offer to your customers you need to take great pride in it. Not only is it where they will leave their cars but it will be the first thing they will experience and look at. Faded lines, litter everywhere, potholes and puddles is not very inviting. Invest in your parking lot, tar the surface if it’s uneven or damaged and repaint the lines for the parking spaces. Every two weeks, clean the parking lot of any rubbish and try to keep it clean generally speaking.

The wet work

Retail businesses don’t have strong ceilings. They are designed to be light and airy so the store can be air-conditioned and repairs can be made quickly regarding wiring faults. However, this means that the only protection your customers have from the elements once inside your store is the roof. The roof is subjected to wear and tear, with rain and wind constantly battering it. If you have just moved into a store that is decades old, you should modernize it with a tpo roof repair. This complex roofing design makes the roof entirely waterproof from the edges to the center. There is a multi laying process, with the use of single sheets and multiple attachments along with the thermoplastic sheets being bolted together. After this, the roof is covered with metal sheets that are welded together right up to the edges. There’s no way for any kind of liquid substance to penetrate into the deeper layers and cause water damage and potentially a hole that leads into the ceiling.

The simple things

The general love and attention you pay to your retail store will go a long way in the consumer’s eyes. Wash your windows, take out the trash, sweep leaves, twigs and dirt off the pavement and entrance of your business regularly.

Keeping up appearances isn’t just about attracting customers to your retail store. It should be a matter of pride too as the way your business looks from the outside is a reflection for your care for it.
