It’s all good and well spending hours in the office trying to grow your business, but sometimes, you’ll find that you hit a brick wall. And what’s tough about these moments is that you don’t really know that they’re happening, so you need to be aware. If you think you’re creativity is beginning to dip, or you’re just not as enthused about your work, you need to take a break. But not a break in the conventional sense. Instead, it’s about changing your surroundings. Head somewhere else to work for a couple of weeks, and you’ll kickstart your productivity again. Here’s how you do it.
Choose Your Location
If you’re going to mix things up, then the first thing to do is choosing where you’ll base yourself. So long as you have access to wifi, then you’ll be good to go! But the question is, where? Some people feel thrived working in a creative, happening place, at which point visiting another city and hitting up a coworking space might be the way to go. Alternatively, you can save goodbye to urban areas for a while, and head into nature. The perspective will inspire you into new routes.
What You’ll Need
It doesn’t take all that much planning to head elsewhere for a week or so to work, providing everything at headquarters is under control. But there are some things that you’ll need. A laptop, of course, and the aforementioned internet connection will be essential. You’ll also want to work with a company that offers managed cloud solutions, so you can access your work documents and files from wherever you end up. Software to hold meetings online with your staff will also be useful so that you can check in from time to time.
Avoiding the Distractions
You’re not on vacation. You’ve come to work! And if you’re going to achieve what you set out to achieve, then you’ll need to work to avoid the distractions. If you’ve picked a beautiful place or happening city, you might be tempted to head out and see what’s on offer. Of course, there’ll be time for that – but don’t make a habit of waking up and thinking about what you’re going to do that day. Make sure you’re happy with the work you’ve completed before exploring!
Long Walks
We get into a habit of doing the same old, same old when we work in an office, and perspective can be hard to come by. When you’re in a new zone, it’s easy to find! Schedule in some time to go for long walks, without your phone. They’re great for getting the creative process going.
Resting Up
Finally, you can use this an opportunity to rest. You’ll have plenty of responsibilities when you’re at home, and by the time everything has finished, you’ll just want to crawl into bed. When you’re elsewhere, those responsibilities will be reduced. Spend your evenings resting up and building your energy back up. By the time you return to work, you’ll be raring to go.
