Finance expert Mike Periu on the top five, learnable skills leading Successful Entrepreneur
Target Training International recently conducted a multivariable analysis of successful serial entrepreneurs to determine which skills, traits and abilities they have in common and played a central role in their success. The results identified five skills that were most indicative of the entrepreneurial mindset, which set these winners apart from the control group.
The five skills are:
- Persuasion, defined as the ability to convince others to think like them, is the strongest skill of the entrepreneurs that participated in the study.
- Leadership, defined as having a vision and articulating it was the second skill. The entrepreneurs in the study tied this vision to specific challenges and solutions to those challenges.
- Personal accountability, defined as demonstrating initiative, self-confidence, resiliency and a willingness to take responsibility for personal actions, is also important. People that tend to blame others for failure don’t make successful entrepreneurs.
- Goal orientation, defined as energetically working towards a specific objective, task or result.
- Interpersonal skills, defined as effective communication and the ability to build rapport with others.
If you don’t have these skills don’t be discouraged; they can be learned.
