Have you been called down to the headquarters of another company or perhaps for a meeting in a restaurant on the other side of the world? Business owners will regularly travel all over the world, talking to investors, meeting with B2B clients, going to various conferences and industry events. It’s not wise to travel economy is you know you need to travel frequently and you know time is of the essence. All you should care about is looking presentable and arriving to your meeting on time. Thus you need to bring some things along with you that makes sure you’re light and agile, able to pack light and move quickly when time is tight. Here are some things you should take with you on your business trip.
Creature comforts
When you know somebody professional is awaiting your presence, it’s normal to be nervous. From the moment you get dressed in the morning and pack your things you’ll be thinking about what you will say, what the person you’re meeting will be like and whether or not this trip will be fruitful for your business. Take on board the flight or train with you an inflatable neck pillow. Sleepover long journeys is invaluable. You don’t want to come off the flight and be so tired you can’t think straight. Take some ear plugs with you to help you in this endeavor to get some rest so you’re fresh on landing.
Rehearsing while moving
Of course you know what your business plan and ambitions are. You know them off by heart, at least the fundamentals. However, if you are due to give a presentation you should have access to your notes. Take with you a tablet or notebook of some kind, so you can read over the points you’re going to make, and rehearse the speech or presentation over and over until you feel comfortable. It’s also a good way to add some things or delete some things that sound or look a bit off.
Don’t carry money
The last thing you should be worrying about on a business trip is money. There are various business credit cards that take a load of your mind and are geared toward people who travel a lot for their career or profession. You can have many thousands of dollars on the cards, so you can pay for any expenses you need to, e.g. travel, hotels, food, toiletries etc. Paying for flights, transport, food, clothes or anything else will mean you need to carry a big wad of cash in your wallet. However you also shouldn’t need to use your own personal credit card for things that are work-related.
Keeping fresh
Even if you’re not tired, travelling for long hours can make you look worse for wear. Keep some eye drops in your pocket so you can take the grey and dull look out of your face. Some moisturizing cream for your neck, hands and face is also a good idea. Take your shaver with you, even a day can make you look a little gruff since your last shave.
Business trips will take a lot out of you. When you go on holidays there’s not much care for when you get rest until you get to the hotel. However for a business trip you’re going to meet someone in the hopes to impress them. So be wary of getting enough rest, use some earplugs to drown out the noise of others around you and sleep soundly on a neck pillow.
